Our Aims and Ethos

A message from Mr. Charles Welsh – Executive Head Teacher

It is our belief that children are at the heart of our school and that every child should be respected as an individual whose self-esteem and aspirations are nurtured to ensure he or she is happy and successful.

We aim to work with you in an open partnership, sharing our knowledge of your child, our ambitions for him or her and our friendship to ensure we can all celebrate his or her achievements.

The school has established partnerships with the University of Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire College,  Cheltenham Ladies College, CCP and Whaddon, Lynworth and Priors Neighbourhood Project,  which provides our pupils with a wealth of opportunities to enhance their curriculum entitlement especially in sports and the Arts.

Oakwood also works closely with its partner school, Gardners Lane Primary School, under the leadership of Executive Head Teacher, Charles Welsh.  Our aim is to work with you as partners, to share your ambitions for your children and our knowledge of them to make sure that together we can celebrate their achievements.

Children learn what they live

If a child lives with criticism;  he learns to condemn.

If a child lives with hostility;  he learns to fight.

If a child lives with ridicule;  he learns to be shy.

If a child lives with shame;  he learns to feel guilty.

If a child lives with tolerance;  he learns to be patient.

If a child lives with encouragement;  he learns confidence.

If a child lives with praise;  he learns to appreciate.

If a child lives with fairness;  he learns justice.

If a child lives with security;  he learns to have faith.

If a child lives with approval;  he learns to like himself.

If a child lives with acceptance and friendship;

He learns to find love in the world.
