Runner-Up in panathlon Outstanding Achievement

Arch4

Mrs Godsell worked together with Mrs Haddon earlier in the term to write a nomination, in secret, for Ryan for the Panathlon Challenge Outstanding Achievement Award. They were delighted to discover Ryan had achieved the Runner-up award and spent a tense 4 weeks trying to keep it quiet from Ryan and his family. In our Sports Awards assembly in the Summer term, Ryan was finally presented with his award.

Fantastic effort Ryan, we are so pleased for you!

Y6 Sporting Awards

This year, alongside two other Y6 awards of recognition, we presented for the first time two awards for Outstanding Sportsmanship. The girls award went to Sophie Sharpe and the boys award to Shay Wood, both of whom have represented Oakwood in an enormous number of Sports teams throughout their time with us. They have also consistently demonstrated the School Games Values of Determination, Passion and respect both at team practice within school and at competitions against other schools.

Well done Sophie and Shay!

Outstanding effort Oakwood!

Today I returned from a PE Subject Leaders Course, proud of all of the staff and pupils at Oakwood for whom I had accepted a certificate in recognition of the way in which they have consistently upheld the School Games Values of Passion, Honesty, Determination, Self Belief, Respect and Teamwork at each and every event that they have participated in this year.

You should all be immensley proud of yourselves!

Federation Day

Our Federation Sports Day will take place at the Prince of Wales Stadium during the morning of Monday 10th July. We look forward to seeing parents and friends at the stadium to support this event.

Primary Schools Athletics Field Events

Oakwood had a fantastic night at the Field Events yesterday. Our throwers and jumpers all represented the school amazingly, gaining us lots of points.

Craig, in Y5, won a GOLD medal in the throwing event. Super effort, Craig!

The points we have gained from this event has given us 22 points which are added to points gained at the Prince of Wales Stadium during our running events on July 7th.. This places Oakwood in first place out of the teams competing in the Severn Shield, before the running events even begin.

Well done, Team Oakwood!

Level 3 Panathlon

Our Oakwood Panathlon Team competed in the Level 3 Games at Hartpury last week.

Cricket Festivals

Last week, Mrs James took a girls Cricket Team to compete at Cheltenham Cricket Club and a boys Cricket Team to compete at Hatherley and Reddings Cricket club. Both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and teamwork and enjoyed a chance to put into practise the skills they have been learning alongside the Chance to Shine Cricket coaches who have been coming into school this term. A huge thanks to Mrs James for giving up her lunchtimes since Easter to coach the teams.

Level 2 Archery

Mrs Jacobs and Mrs Rust took a team of 9 Year 6 pupils to participate in an Archery tournament at Balcarras School. The children received some tuition during the morning session and took part in a competition against 8 other schools during the afternoon. Their teamwork and determination led to a total of 914 points, putting Oakwood in 1st place. The team returned to school with 9 gold medals and are just waiting to hear if their score remains unbeaten at the second Archery tournament and whether they will compete at the Level 3 competition, representing Gloucestershire.

Regardless of whether they make it through to the Level 3 Competition, what a fantastic achievement. Well done to all who were involved. We are very proud of you!

Level 2 Rounders

Well done, Oakwood!

Today, Wednesday 7th June, we dodged the rain clouds to play in the SSN rounders tournament. The team was made up of 13 children from Y4-Y6, all of whom were excellent ambassadors for Oakwood. They all showed the School Games values of determination and teamwork whilst demonstrating encouragement for each other and the other teams. You were a credit to the school!

We won our first match, then lost the second by 1/2 a rounder. In the third match we were up against a very strong team from Charlton Kings, but held it together with a narrow loss by only 11/2 rounders. This placed in a final match playing for 3rd place. Unfortunately we lost to another very strong side, just missing out on medals and coming 4th overall. A fantastic afternoon Team Oakwood.

Level 2 Primary Panathlon

Mrs Haddon took 7 children to the Primary Panathlon at All Saints Academy. They competed as a team against other schools in: Boccia, Table tennis cricket, Curling and a number of other activities. Everyone had a fantastic time, coming home with t-shirts and medals and were excellent ambassadors for our school.

The team are really excited to have been asked to compete at the L3 County Panathlon finals, later this term.
