Come Dine with Us

In class 7 this term we have completed a Chronology project where we have studied food through the ages. Not only have we learnt about the production of food through the ages, but we have each had the opportunity to sample some of the food. The children have looked at: the Stone Age, Romans, Vikings, Tudors, Victorians and Modern Day Britain. The children learnt about how the people lived, what they ate, how food was produced and what it tasted like through our exciting topic.

The Stone Age

The children learnt about the types of food available in the Stone Age. They created their own Stone Age hunting tools using papier-mache!


The Romans

The children learnt about the Romans and created their own healthy Roman meals.  They were surprised by some of the delicacies which the Romans enjoyed to eat!

Next, they discovered 'Who did the Waste?!' and had to discover which era the waste was from! They found out it was from the Roman times.


The Vikings and Tudors

Then the children had the opportunity to create their own Viking Butter using a Viking recipe. They also designed their own Viking drinking horns.

Next, they learnt about the diets of the rich and poor Tudors and the foods they would have been able to eat.  The majority of the classes said they would prefer the diet of a rich Tudor rather than a poor one. They also explored the Wars of the Roses and created their own healthy Tudor fruit salad in the design of a Tudor Rose!


The Victorians

The children learnt about the difficult lives of the Victorian Children and the living conditions of the work houses.  They then discussed the food they would have eaten.  They then worked in groups to create their own Victorian Gruel!  Not only did they make it, they ate it as well....surprisingly, lots of children enjoyed the taste. They really enjoyed singing along to Oliver's 'Food Glorious Food!'.


Modern Day Britain

This was the final part of our Chronology Come Dine with Us topic.  We ventured to the family room where we shared a traditional afternoon tea together.  The children were given etiquette rules explaining how to sit, eat and drink. The adults served the children their tea, scones and cakes in a similar style to a traditional tea room.  The children relaxed, ate, drank tea and danced with their partners.
