World War II Wow Day and Share Afternoon

Wow Day - Evacuees

Year 6 enjoyed a World War II Wow Day! Not only did they create lots of interesting pieces of art work. The children also made a real effort to come to school dressed as wartime evacuees.

Activities for the day included:

- Spending the day in a 1940's style classroom layout.

- Learning about evacuation and creating an evacuee suitcase.

- Discussing rations and baking shortbread using a traditional wartime ration recipe.

- Wartime marching in the playground.

- Great teamwork was shown as the children designed and created their own miniature Anderson Shelters.

- The children also participated in a classroom air raid with sirens.

- Learning wartime songs and having a sing along.

Share Afternoon

The children worked really hard throughout the wow day. They particularly enjoyed creating the shortbread using rations, which they then shared with the adults who attended in the afternoon.

Both classes were very excited to welcome the adults into class to see the excellent work they had created throughout the day. The adults even participated in an air raid!

The children prepared wartime games to play with the adults at the end of the share day, including: skipping, marbles and hopskotch. It was clear that both the children and adults had lots of fun! Take a look at some of the pictures.
