Head of School - Maternity (Fostering/Adoption) Cover

Start Date: 01.09.25 or earlier if available

    • An opportunity has arisen for a part-time Head of School role. The post is temporary, for up to 1 year, on a maternity cover basis meaning it would cease as and when the member of staff returns. Every effort will be made to give as much notice as possible with a minimum of 4 weeks. The post is an FTE 0.6 but applicants who can commit to an FTE0.5 would be welcome to apply. However, any negotiated contract would need to be within the Wednesday, Thursday Friday work schedule.

      We are looking for an inspirational and committed Head of School who will work alongside our Executive Headteacher, Job share Head of School and Governing Body to shape the next phase in our school’s improvement journey.

      We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, self-motivated Head of School who would relish the opportunity to develop their leadership skills within our Federation. The successful candidate would take responsibility, alongside their job share partner, for the strategic development and operational organisation of our Oakwood Primary School site in Cheltenham.

      The federation would be willing to consider all applicants with suitable experience, including internal candidates, and would be willing to support temporary secondment arrangements with other schools if this opportunity would like to be explored in this way.

      The Federation of Gardners Lane and Oakwood currently has a combined role of 640 children. The Federation is committed to developing and sustaining an outstanding school that prides itself on its inclusive education, built on firm foundations of pastoral support and developing the whole child.  The school is making strong progress towards its goals to ensure that it provides the children with a high-quality standard of teaching and learning.

      The governors wish to appoint a suitably driven Head of School to support the strategic development of the school and be part of the exciting journey of school development that is currently underway. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the initiative, inspiration, challenge, support and motivation that will be needed to maintain the momentum already established.
