Writing
Our Vision
At Oakwood Primary School, we believe that every child has the potential to become a confident, articulate and passionate communicator. Through an integrated approach to Speaking & Listening, Reading & Writing, we nurture pupils’ determination to improve, their self-belief in their own voice, and a genuine love of language in all its forms. We deliver this through a carefully structured combination of explicit writing skills teaching and engaging Talk for Writing units, enabling pupils to internalise language patterns, understand text structures and develop confidence before writing independently. Within a broad and balanced curriculum, pupils are given meaningful opportunities to consolidate and apply taught literacy skills across subjects. By fostering resilience, curiosity and high expectations, we empower children to embrace challenge, take pride in their achievements and leave Year 6 as reflective, capable learners who are fully prepared for the next stage of their education and later life.
